Introduction
Faire Play, Inc. is a Pennsylvania company that was incorporated in February of 2007. Its founders have come together in pursuit of a common dream, a dream that has become a realistic goal. That goal is to create a medieval village that will serve as a venue for historical reenactment organizations, live action role-playing (LARP) companies, performance groups and community events.
The Events
Faire Play is currently renting the site to private groups and individuals, but it is our intention to eventually also hold public events in the future.
We hope to hold two public events each year. These events will be on one weekend in the spring and one in the fall. One event will be a historically oriented medieval faire. This event will concentrate on displays, demonstrations and performances involving daily life, crafts, trades, military life and general history of the medieval time period. The second event will be a medieval fantasy faire, with emphasis on tales and stories in the tradition of King Arthur, Robin Hood and The Lord of the Rings. This event will include wizards, fairies, monsters and other mythical beings. Depending on how these events are received, we may expand the number of public weekends.
We do not wish to hold these larger public events until we have the ability and capacity to accomodate larger groups of visitors. In the meantime, we are renting to smaller groups who want to rent a medieval-themed campsite. Many of these groups are well established and have been successfully operating for years and even decades. Their biggest obstacle has always been finding an appropriate place to hold their events with a staff that is understanding and encouraging. We are pleased to host them and welcome any inquiries from other groups who may wish to use the site.
Potential future uses of the site also include a medieval themed Halloween haunted village, medieval themed weddings and cultural festivals.
Community Involvement
It is the intention of Faire Play to work hand and hand with the community where we eventually make our home, and are working hard to become an asset to the community.
Our endeavor has favorably affected the local businesses. Visitors to our site frequent the local restaurants, merchants and gas stations. Construction materials are purchased from the local hardware stores, quarries and lumber yards. Local contractors and craftspeople have been hired to help in the creation of our site.
Just as important as any economic impact we may have is the impact we can have on the people of the community. Though we are running a business, sharing our knowledge of the medieval period, entertaining others and providing a place for groups to hold their events were the goals that brought us together at Faire Play, Inc.
